When defamation turns criminal: death threats and a fake obituary

 ðŸ“Œ Beyond digital defamation, the ReceptioGate campaign reached levels of intimidation that are no longer academic in nature. Prof. Carla Rossi was targeted with anonymous death threats and a fabricated obituary, published online as if she had died.

The threats were serious enough to be documented in an official PDF file, now publicly archived. The fake obituary, published on the Swiss memorial website deinadieu.ch, was removed only after Rossi's legal team intervened.

These acts go far beyond scholarly disagreement—they constitute a deliberate attempt to silence a researcher by spreading fear and simulating her death.

Institutional complicity: internal mailing lists used to spread defamatory content

 ðŸ“Œ One of the most disturbing aspects of the ReceptioGate affair was the misuse of internal academic resources to disseminate defamatory material. In early 2023, emails containing false and harmful statements about Prof. Carla Rossi were sent out from the mailing list of the Società Internazionale di Storia della Miniatura . These emails, sent to dozens of members and colleagues, used the official database of the Society’s members —without consent, and reportedly without the knowledge of the Society’s president. The content included insinuations based on blog posts, unverified accusations, and misleading claims about institutional affiliations.
