Institutional complicity: internal mailing lists used to spread defamatory content

 ðŸ“Œ One of the most disturbing aspects of the ReceptioGate affair was the misuse of internal academic resources to disseminate defamatory material. In early 2023, emails containing false and harmful statements about Prof. Carla Rossi were sent out from the mailing list of the Società Internazionale di Storia della Miniatura.

These emails, sent to dozens of members and colleagues, used the official database of the Society’s members—without consent, and reportedly without the knowledge of the Society’s president. The content included insinuations based on blog posts, unverified accusations, and misleading claims about institutional affiliations.

This raises serious concerns not only about academic integrity, but also about data protection and  violations of the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
